The Multiplicative Effect of Failure of Microservices

There are many benefits to a microservice architecture including the ability to utilize different technologies, avoiding technology lock-in, reduced time-to-market, and better comprehensibility of the code base. However, when implemented with synchronous communication between the services or through shared infrastructure, a microservice architecture can reduce the overall availability of the application because of the multiplicative effect of failure.
